Number porting (MNP)

You keep your current number and only switch carriers. Number porting is called MNP (Mobile Number Portability) in English.

Number porting on the application screen

Swipe to the right and follow along in order.

  1. Choose your carrier

    Choose your carrier screen

    Tap Activate with KT (KT 개통하기) for the mint Baro SIM, or Activate with LG (LG 개통하기) for the black One-Chip SIM and the red GoGoB SIM.

  2. Choose number porting

    Choose number porting screen

    Tap Number porting (번호이동) and enter the number to verify. Do not cancel your current carrier in advance.

  3. Face verification

    Match your face and ID at the address shown. If you fail 3 times, you move on to the next step.

  4. Simple authentication

    Verify your identity with one of KakaoTalk, Toss Bank, PASS, KB Kookmin Bank, or Shinhan Bank.

  5. Choose your current carrier

    Choose by company name, not brand name. If you are not sure, call 114 from your current phone.

  6. Customer type and usage

    Minors and corporate names cannot use self-activation.

  7. Enter the SIM number

    For KT, enter the number that starts with 8982 in one box. For LG, enter the model name and serial number in two boxes.

  8. Plan selection and pre-check

    Enter your name and resident registration number exactly as they appear on your ID.

  9. Pre-consent request

    Check the payment type (prepaid or postpaid), your carrier, and the number you are porting, then send the request. If no text message arrives within 10 minutes, use the ARS call.

    Give consent through the text message link or the ARS call, then tap Complete.

  11. Choose a payment method and activate

    Once activated, your old line is canceled automatically. Top up on the day of activation, and answer the call from 1899-7700 within 3 days.

How pre-consent works

This is the step where your current carrier gives consent. It applies only to number porting, not to new sign-up.

  1. Request pre-consentOn the application screen, choose the correct payment type (prepaid or postpaid) and company name, then tap the request button.
  2. Consent by text message linkTap the link in the text message from your current carrier to give consent.
  3. If nothing arrives in 10 minutes, use ARSCall the number in the table above from the phone you are moving, and give consent.
  4. Tap Pre-consent completeGo back to the application screen, tap Complete, and move to the next step.

What to keep in mind before porting

  • Do not cancel your current carrier first. If you cancel, the number cannot be moved. The old line is canceled automatically when the new one is activated.
  • If pre-consent and identity verification attempts go over 7 in one day, number porting is blocked for that day.
  • If you move to another carrier, your remaining prepaid balance is lost. It is better to use up the balance before you move.
  • The deadline is 7:50 PM. Please start early so you finish by 7:30 PM.
  • Minors and corporate names cannot use self-activation.

Number porting FAQ

What does MNP mean?

MNP stands for Mobile Number Portability, which means moving your phone number to another carrier. You keep your number and change only the carrier.

How is it different from new sign-up?

New sign-up gives you a new number, while number porting brings your current number with you. If you have overdue or unpaid amounts or a micropayment balance, go with new sign-up.

Pre-consent keeps failing.

The most common causes are choosing the wrong payment type (prepaid or postpaid) or the wrong company name. Lines suspended for unpaid bills and lines activated less than 90 days ago also cannot proceed.

I just paid the unpaid amount, but it still does not work.

It goes through after the payment shows up in your current carrier’s system. Check with your current carrier that it has been applied, then try again.

Can I move between KT and LG within N-Telecom?

This cannot be done directly in the Membership app. If you want to carry over your remaining balance, we need to check before you apply, so please message us on KakaoTalk first.

Is there anything to do after number porting?

On the day of activation, top up one month of the plan you chose and turn your phone off and on 2 to 3 times. Also be sure to answer the confirmation call from 1899-7700 within 3 days.

Can I port a prepaid number from another carrier?

Yes. A prepaid number from another carrier can also be moved if the conditions are met.

Can I port if my prepaid balance is zero or has expired?

For LG, it works as long as the number is not canceled. For KT, it depends on the situation, so please ask us first.

I do not know my current carrier.

Call 114 from your current phone, or check the subscription status lookup on M-Safer. You can find the company name in the list above.

Does my current SIM stop working as soon as I give pre-consent?

No. Your old line is canceled the moment the new SIM is activated. That is why you must not cancel it first.

If I move within N-Telecom, does my balance move too?

Yes, if you send us your name and number before applying so we can check. If you move to another carrier, the balance is lost.

Can a sole proprietor port a number?

Yes. Sole proprietors can also port a number online.

Can I move from another company’s prepaid to N-Telecom postpaid?

This is not possible online. Visit a center and fill out the paperwork there.
